A Sampling of Local London Gigs
The city of London is the capital city of Great Britain and one of the biggest towns internationally. As a consequence, the city is loaded with all types of entertainment spots, from local joints to world scale avenues. Great international performers troop to London regularly, and fans also come from around the world to attend London gigs. The opera scene in London is awfully active and the city constantly hosts the top performers in its many opera homes. The theatre also has a large following and London boasts of some of the world’s most famed performing theatre groups. The city is known for hosting high visibility charity concerts supporting assorted causes. There are also some low profile performances all over that still thrill the local fans all the same.
In May this year, the Gibson Guitar Club played host to a somewhat low key event by London’s proportions. It’s a performance by the group known as the Ripples backed by the band Korova. The Rifles have been playing for quite a while now yet they haven’t made it to the conventional limelight. They started slowly with a new track from their upcoming 3rd album “Moving On” and progressed continuously into an epic crescendo. They managed to maintain their identity through as working class folks doing working class music.
UK band the Murderdolls headlined a local London gig at Kentish Town in February, an event that was also graced by local bands The Defiled and Black Veil Brides. From the costumes, the stage props and the tunes belted out- the theme was that of punk rock and horror movies, and hardcore fans were not displeased. The expectation built was palpable with the crowd steaming forward in an effort to get a better look at their idols. The show was a frantic mixture of heavy guitar and fist pumping choruses that required tremendous amounts of power from the performers and fans alike.
The Manchester band Elbow played at the O2 Arena in London in what is definitely the largest indoor London gig in their career. The band wasn’t at all intimidated by the grand world famous arena and took to the stage exuding a lot of confidence. The band comprises five ordinary guys who are able to relate to their fans thru their music that dwells on ordinary life. The performance they gave was proof that they keep getting better.
