The position you're referring to is called an A&R

Most labels recruit people to become A&R's through internship programs. Def Jam has one, my cousin and one of my friends did the program. Here's the link to their application http://www.islanddefjam.com/www2/collegerepsignup/application.las

Other labels have similar programs. However, many companies are doing away with their A&R departments due to downloading loosing money. Also the Internet now tells who is hot, so they don't have to spend money looking for talent.

Nielsen SoundScan tracks whose downloaded most and online music communities like MySpace and Facebook report page views and how many times people listen to their songs. They no longer care that much about live performances because the studio can fix their voice—-that is why so many artists are terrible performing live.

Visit record labels websites and see if they have internships available.

    Good Luck.

There are good hip-hop shows & I've been to a rave or 2. I wouldn't say it's necessarilly super safe but I do fine there everytime I go. There is a huge free event that lasts for an entire weekend. It's called D.E.M.F. (Detroit Electronic Music Festival). It's has a variety of artists (not only electronica) & is fun & safe. You should Google it. It has to be coming up soon.

You can't….. iTunes knows those files are illegal and now you have yourself some problems….what you do is buy your music, and then it will show in your library…

The disadvantage of playing with a tape recorder or something like that is that it looks boring – only one person to look at it. You gotta be extra entertaining. Second is, for guitarists especially, is what are you going to do for rhythm? The two options i've seen are a drum machine or a laptop. The laptop is more expensive but you can literally record a full CD quality backing track. Unfortunately, the quality of your sound is completely dependent on house speakers… which could be a bad thing. The best way to go would be getting a rack setup, where you can plug your laptop into… but it would mean a mixer or preamp (virtualizer, perhaps), a power amp, and possibly other effects, too (EQ, compressor, vocal processor, etc).

A laptop also has no dynamic "feel"… you can't give and take with a drum machine. This could mean that your music might feel lifeless and mechanical. Still, a laptop has a lot of options available to it.

If I had the money, that is what I would do…. as it is, i'm doing my best to talk my drummer in the band i'm in into doing a side project with me.

    Think…. bribery. =)

Its in your iPod , and iTunes right? If so, go to iTunes, find your Music Videos and right click on it. Go to every tab on the options, and find the tab that says Video Type. Once there, scroll down the list and select music videos. Then your done. Now just connect your iPod and it will fix your flaw.

there is a program called cake walk and you have to buy a keyboard, hook it up to your laptop, and when u play, the notes appear on the screen. Also i could reccomend Finale. the downside is that calk walk is about $400.

I have observed myself that my concentration level is higher when music is played in the background while I am doing any work.

The best music is soft instrumental. Rock is too loud to distract you. If there are songs sung by someone are equally distracting as the lyrics and the modulation and pitch of voice distract.

The most important thing to remember is that the music should be something very soft, soothing.

Some which work best for me are

    a) Yanni – tracks – Nostalgia, Until last moment, One man, Nightingale

    b) Kitaro

    c) Titanic tracks – they are instrumental

    d) And if you like Indian music, then go for Sitar by Ravi Shankar

    e) Santoor by Shiv kumar sharma

So, which one would you go for?

    Happy home-working!!

I agree with Delicio – the interwoven lines of medieval music are often functioning on a level that one does not appreciate without a decent background.

Tell you what – get yourself a copy of Gradus ad Parnassum by FUX (that is pronounced FOOKS, so you do not get into trouble. Betcha that Yahoo *cleans up* the spelling!). It is the book that Mozart's teacher used to teach HIM – and countless thousands of other have learned from it. IT goes through the forms of *species counterpoint* – how melodies are built to weave around each other – in a Master and Pupil dialogue. Yes, it can be dry – but see how much of it you can comprehend on your own. If you have a sense of "Ah, Little Grasshopper, see if you can take the cola nuts from my hand!", then it makes it easier to read – we have all seen those kinds of martial-arts learning movies! This can be VERY interesting – my son is getting his MM in Digital Music, and for an elective, decided he needed sometime REALLY different than all the Final and Sibelius and recording stuff running through his head – so HE just tokk a Medieval and Renaissance choral music course – wrote a monster paper on "Spem in Allium". I read it because I am his Mom – otherwise, it would put me into a powerful somnolence . . . A lot depends on the professor – if they are psyched about this, great. If they are a deadly snore – ouch. I had a guy for Art History who was, I swear, the last semi-living grandson of Bela Lugosi. We were asleep in minutes- dark room, too many slides . . .

Good luck with the course – you never know until you try.

You can continue to download music from Limewire. I've been using Limewire for years. I've also downlaoded a song or two from iTunes. iTunes is connected to a database of music, therefore, nothing on your computer will be scanned by iTunes (except for your music collection within iTunes for the genuis feature). And the genius scans the music via band name, genre..etc..it's not actually scanning to see if your music is legal or not. Besides, it would be illegal for anyone to access your computer without your permission. The stories you're hearing about people getting sued happened back in the days of Napster (before it was reopened after legal issues) and people on Limewire who get caught are those who spend hours or even days at a time connected to Limewire downloading hundreds of songs at a time. If you're connected for a few hours at a time at max then you'll be just fine. I have a friend who's always connected to Limewire when I see him on his computer and he's never had issues.
